Former Foreign Minister could be the \u201csaviour\u201d of the state Liberal party.<\/h3>\n

According to Advertiser columnist Rex Jory<\/a>, Alexander Downer is being mentioned in \u201clow whispers\u201d as a potential leader of the state Libs should the party lose the upcoming election.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere would be a real danger that the party would implode in a nasty factional civil war,\u201d Jory writes.<\/h3>\n

\u201cEnter Mr Downer. He is undoubtedly the best-known Liberal Party figure in South Australia. He is respected as Australia\u2019s longest-serving Foreign Minister, former federal Opposition Leader and High Commissioner in London.<\/h3>\n
