Port Adelaide champion and FIVEAA\u2019s own Kane Cornes says taking dives has become his greatest footy regret.<\/h3>\n

\u201cI was a diver\u2026 and that phase of my career remains the biggest regret of my time in the AFL,\u201d Kane said on SEN.<\/h3>\n

\u201cAs a young tagger I was often the target of physical attention as the opposition tried to protect their best player\u2026<\/h3>\n

\u201cFrustrated by the lack of protection from the umpires, my midfield coach at the time, the late Phil Walsh, sat me down and basically said the only way to stop the attacks was to go to ground and exaggerate the contact.<\/h3>\n

\u201cFor a number of years this tactic often worked\u2026 However, I got into a habit I couldn\u2019t get out of and later in my career, even when I deserved a free-kick the umpires often let it go clearly aware of my reputation.\u201d<\/h3>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Kane said diving has become a \u201cblight on the game\u201d, and called out a number of current stars for playing for frees on occasion, including Alex Rance, Toby Greene, Patrick Dangerfield, Lindsay Thomas and Chad Wingard.<\/p>\n\n
