Mr Kundi was involved in an incident with police at Royston Park in the early hours of Thursday 29 May 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The investigation and inquiries of this incident will have several layers of independent oversight, including the Director of Public Prosecution, Office of Public Integrity and the State Coroner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr Kundi\u2019s death is being investigated as a death in police custody and Major Crime Investigation Branch will continue to investigate the cause and circumstances of his death and prepare a report for the State Coroner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Office of Public Integrity has independent oversight of the investigation into the conduct of the police officers involved in the incident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On 3 June 2025, Commissioner of Police Grant Stevens announced there will be a Commissioner\u2019s Inquiry into the incident, which will be conducted by a Chief Superintendent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The senior investigating officer conducting the Commissioner\u2019s Inquiry has reviewed body worn vision and it has been confirmed that at no time was a knee applied to Mr Kundi\u2019s neck. His head was not forced into the car or roadway at any point. However, the use of restraints during this incident will be closely examined during the Commissioner\u2019s Inquiry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>SAPOL has advised the Indian Consulate and provided a briefing on the incident and the investigation.
