Canadian journo Malcolm Gladwell has just blown our damn minds.<\/p>\n

As the host of popular podcast Revisionist History<\/a>, we\u2019re used to hearing him tell us just how little we really know.<\/p>\n

But not like this.<\/p>\n

According to Gladwell, Maccas \u201cmade the world’s greatest French Fry. Then they threw it away\u201d.<\/em><\/p>\n

Apparently McDonalds reinvented their fry sometime in 1990 but Gladwell, boasting a fry palate of epic proportions, was pretty much the only one to notice.<\/p>\n

And has, accordingly, been on a quest to uncover the truth ever since.<\/p>\n

He reports that the change occurred because a man named Phil Sokolop<\/a> had a heart attack in 1966 and started a smear campaign against the fast-food joint to the tune of $4 million. Adverts in newspapers supposedly called out Mickie D\u2019s for being unhealthy (which, \u2018bowl me over with a feather!’).<\/p>\n

His super-sleuthing has paid off as the podcast host figured out that it was on July 23, 1990 when McDonalds \u201cfolded” and switched from frying their chippies in beef tallow (which is essentially beef fat) to vegetable oil.<\/p>\n

“It turns out to be false that vegetable oil is healthier for you than beef tallow,” he said of the change.<\/em><\/p>\n

“So not only did they destroy the French fry… They gave us something that was worse for us from a health perspective. So everything about it was a mistake. If they had any balls at all, they would turn around and say, ‘We were wrong, and we’re going back to fries the old way,’.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

And drunk vegetarians the world over screeched.<\/p>\n
