{"id":15042,"date":"2017-05-31T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2017-05-31T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cms.fiveaa.com.au\/uncategorized\/heartbreaking-truth-about-pilot-killed-in-renmark-crash\/"},"modified":"2017-05-31T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2017-05-31T00:00:00","slug":"heartbreaking-truth-about-pilot-killed-in-renmark-crash","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cms.fiveaa.com.au\/news\/heartbreaking-truth-about-pilot-killed-in-renmark-crash\/","title":{"rendered":"Heartbreaking truth about pilot killed in Renmark crash"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>One of the pilots killed in Tuesday\u2019s air crash was only days away from retiring from his job as chief pilot at an Adelaide flying school, it has emerged.<\/h3>\n<p>Paul Daw, 65, Martin Scott, 48, and Stephen Guerin, 56, were all killed when their plane crashed near Renmark.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.adelaidenow.com.au\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">According to The Advertiser<\/a>, Mr Daw was due to retire from the Bruce Hartwig Flying School on Friday:<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cPaul was retiring from his role as Hartwig Air\u2019s Chief Pilot this Friday, with Shaun Felleger assuming the role,\u201d the school said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTypical of Paul, at 65 he had no intention of retiring from being a pilot, so he was working with Rossair to continue his unrelenting passion for all things aviation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHartwig\u2019s and the aviation community will not only grieve at the passing of a tremendous individual, but also for the significant loss his family suffers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPaul was a very well-known, highly experienced and respected senior pilot. We will all miss our dear friend and valued colleague. May he rest in peace.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The light plane crash happened during a training flight.<\/p>\n<p>The plane crashed on Tuesday afternoon and a search party found the wreckage around 4km west of the Renmark Aerodrome, north east of Adelaide, at 7.10pm.<\/p>\n<p>Charter flight company Rossair owned the Cessna Conquest aircraft and has grounded its fleet as a precautionary measure.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Our deepest sympathies are with the family members concerned.&nbsp;This is an extremely sad event,&#8221; Rossair said in a statement on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>CASA has paid tribute to Mr Guerin who it said was observing the flight as part of the authority&#8217;s routine safety work.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Mr Guerin is remembered by CASA colleagues as passionate about aviation, meticulous about safety and widely respected,&#8221; the authority said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;He was active in community service and known as a &#8216;true gentleman&#8217;.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Transport Minister Darren Chester said he was &#8220;saddened&#8221; by the incident.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;On the behalf of the Australian government I would also like to extent thoughts and prayers to the family and loved ones of all those on board,&#8221; he said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>Police remain at the crash scene while several Australian Transport Safety Bureau investigators are travelling there from Adelaide, Canberra and Sydney.<\/p>\n<p>The investigators are expected to spend at least three days at the site trying to piece together what happened.<\/p>\n<p>Rossair said the plane had been flying from Adelaide to the Riverland and was returning when it crashed at about 4.30pm.<\/p>\n<p><em>-With AAP<\/em><\/p>\n<h3>MOST POPULAR<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cms.fiveaa.com.au\/shows\/rowey-bicks\/graham-cornes-makes-a-brutal-call-on-the-adelaide-crows\"><strong>GRAHAM CORNES MAKES A BRUTAL CALL ON THE ADELAIDE CROWS<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cms.fiveaa.com.au\/shows\/jon-blake\/one-of-blakey-s-songs-has-made-it-interstate-and-they-re-not-happy\"><strong>A BLAKEY SONG HAS MADE IT INTERSTATE\u2026 AND THEY ARE NOT HAPPY<\/strong><\/a><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>One of the pilots killed in Tuesday\u2019s air crash was only days away from retiring from his job as chief pilot at an Adelaide flying school, it has emerged.
