WNBA player and AFLW star Erin Phillips has been cut from her US basketball team, the Dallas Wings.<\/h3>\n

In a one sentence announcement on their website<\/a>, The Wings revealed they have \u201cwaived\u201d the Aussie guard.<\/p>\n

Erin had returned to the US following the AFLW season, in which she starred for the Adelaide Crows, to finish the second year of her contract with the Wings.<\/p>\n

Reporting for Fairfax<\/a>, Roy Ward said the Wings had decided to let Erin go as part of a \u201cyouth movement\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe move has been a shock with Phillips’ defence and leadership strongly admired by her Wings teammates,\u201d Ward wrote.<\/p>\n

If another club doesn\u2019t immediately pick up Phillips, she will become a free agent and another club could sign her. But, according to Ward, it\u2019s a tough time of year to be waived, with all clubs cutting down their rosters.<\/p>\n
