{"id":15550,"date":"2017-03-31T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2017-03-31T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cms.fiveaa.com.au\/uncategorized\/watch-out-if-you-re-a-pedestrian-walking-in-the-city\/"},"modified":"2017-03-31T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2017-03-31T00:00:00","slug":"watch-out-if-you-re-a-pedestrian-walking-in-the-city","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cms.fiveaa.com.au\/news\/watch-out-if-you-re-a-pedestrian-walking-in-the-city\/","title":{"rendered":"WATCH OUT if you\u2019re a pedestrian walking in the city"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>Police will target risky behaviour by pedestrians around Adelaide city starting from Monday.<\/h3>\n<p><strong>\u2018Operation Amble\u2019 will focus on dangerous behaviour by pedestrians, including disobeying \u2018Don\u2019t Walk\u2019 signs at lights, walking across busy lanes of traffic or running in front of cars.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The fine for disobeying traffic lights is $107, and any pedestrians within 20 metres of a crossing are required by law to use it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOfficers will be targeting areas which have high number of pedestrians such as around&nbsp;shopping areas and entertainment precincts with a focus on reducing pedestrian accident rates,\u201d Chief Inspector Matt Nairn said on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnyone who blatantly ignores the pedestrian laws, who places themselves or any other road user at risk, or causes embarrassment to other traffic can expect to be dealt with by way of expiation,\u201d he warned.<\/p>\n<p>In the last year there have been 111 collisions in the city involving pedestrians.<\/p>\n<p>Two of those were fatal, 11 resulted in serious pedestrian injuries, another 61 pedestrians required treatment by a doctor and another 13 received minor injuries.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cOverall this means 82 per cent of all collisions involving pedestrians in the Local Service Area have resulted in someone being injured,\u201d Chief Inspector Nairn said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd we know that invariably the pedestrian is the one who comes off worst in this type of collision &#8212; and that is a central message in this safety operation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPedestrians making risky decisions while under the influence of alcohol &#8212; drink walking &#8212; will also come under police attention in key entertainment areas of the CBD during this operation.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Data released by police shows that 86 per cent of pedestrian accidents in the city occur between 8am and 7.30pm.<\/p>\n<p>Operation Amble is expected to last for the entire month of April.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/itunes.apple.com\/au\/podcast\/david-and-will\/id1167323375?mt=2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>David and Will podcast on iTunes here.<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<h3>MOST POPULAR<\/h3>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/cms.fiveaa.com.au\/sport\/garry-lyon-defends-his-erin-phillips-comments\">COMMENTATOR DEFENDS HIS ERIN PHILLIPS COMMENTS<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cms.fiveaa.com.au\/sport\/sad-news-today-for-two-afl-brothers\"><strong>SAD NEWS FOR THESE TWO AFL BROTHERS<\/strong><\/a><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Police will target risky behaviour by pedestrians around Adelaide city starting from Monday. \u2018Operation Amble\u2019 will focus on dangerous behaviour by pedestrians, including disobeying \u2018Don\u2019t Walk\u2019 signs at lights, walking across busy lanes of traffic or running in front of cars.
