{"id":16143,"date":"2017-01-17T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2017-01-17T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cms.fiveaa.com.au\/uncategorized\/minister-admits-he-wouldn-t-use-uber-service\/"},"modified":"2017-01-17T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2017-01-17T00:00:00","slug":"minister-admits-he-wouldn-t-use-uber-service","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cms.fiveaa.com.au\/news\/minister-admits-he-wouldn-t-use-uber-service\/","title":{"rendered":"Minister admits he wouldn\u2019t use Uber service"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>Transport Minister Stephen Mullighan tells FIVEAA he doesn\u2019t use UberX because he has safety concerns.<\/h3>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve used UberBLACK but I haven\u2019t been using UberX,\u201d Mr Mullighan told FIVEAA brekkie on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m not confident that all of their drivers and all of their cars are accredited.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s why we\u2019ve caught a couple of hundred people who haven\u2019t been doing the right thing in these ride sharing services.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>LISTEN HERE:<\/h3>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" frameborder=\"no\" height=\"166\" scrolling=\"no\" src=\"https:\/\/w.soundcloud.com\/player\/?url=https%3A\/\/api.soundcloud.com\/tracks\/303040756&amp;color=ff5500&amp;auto_play=false&amp;hide_related=false&amp;show_comments=true&amp;show_user=true&amp;show_reposts=false\" width=\"100%\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Mr Mullighan said his department had upped its fight against unauthorised drivers &#8212; including stepping up compliance efforts.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe other thing we\u2019ve also done is stepped up our penalties as well.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe fines can go up to $15,000 and that\u2019s a pretty significant impact.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr Mullighan said there was room in the industry for both traditional and ride sharing services.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is room for all of the competitors,\u201d he said, \u201cwhether its taxis, chauffeured vehicles or these new ride sharing services, because they don\u2019t all do exactly the same thing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOnly taxis pickup at ranks, only taxis and chauffeured vehicles do pre-booked work &#8212; you can\u2019t book un Uber for tonight or tomorrow morning, you can only book it for an immediate pickup.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd mostly the work at the airport is done by taxis and chauffeured vehicles, so they\u2019ve got a large proportion of the market to themselves.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhere the new competition is coming is perhaps on a Friday or a Saturday night where people want to head out to town or want to get home afterwards they want an immediate services\u2026 and they book one of these new ride sharing services.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn that case, yes, there has been more completion.
