Jay Schulz will play his final match for Port Adelaide this Saturday — but says he still has a few years left in him.<\/h3>\n

Port Adelaide announced on Thursday that they had decided not to renew Schulzy\u2019s contract for next year.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve loved my time at Port Adelaide and will always be thankful to the club, in particular Chocco, for giving me a chance,\u201d Schulz said in a statement posted on the PAFC website.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhile I\u2019m disappointed with the club\u2019s decision to let me go I understand and respect the reasons behind it, and wish them all the best with what I\u2019m sure will be a bright future.<\/p>\n

\u201cPersonally, I think I have a couple of years of footy left in me and I look forward to developing off-field too. Helping young players get the best out of themselves is a passion of mine and I\u2019m keen to pursue a career in coaching once my playing days are over.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want to say a massive thanks to all the supporters who have accepted me and stood by me since I arrived at Alberton. They\u2019ve always made me feel part of the club and I feel I\u2019ll always be welcome back.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy biggest thanks has to go to my wife, Amy, and our three kids, who have stood by me over a long period. Professional footballers make a lot of sacrifices but their families contribute just as much or more. I couldn\u2019t have done anything without them.\u201d<\/p>\n

Power coach Ken Hinkley said it was tough cutting Schulz.<\/p>\n

\u201cJay\u2019s value on the field has been clear for all to see ever since he walked into the Port Adelaide Football Club,\u201d Ken said.<\/p>\n

\u201cJust as valuable has been his strength and leadership off-field.<\/p>\n

\u201cUnfortunately the nature of football means we need to make hard decisions around this time of year, and we need to always have our eyes on what our list needs for the future.<\/p>\n

\u201cJay understands that, and he\u2019s handled himself superbly throughout our discussions.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019ll always be welcome at Alberton and a part of this proud footy club.\u201d<\/p>\n
