{"id":17580,"date":"2016-08-23T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2016-08-23T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cms.fiveaa.com.au\/uncategorized\/new-cancer-pill-saved-aussie-man-s-life\/"},"modified":"2016-08-23T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2016-08-23T00:00:00","slug":"new-cancer-pill-saved-aussie-man-s-life","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cms.fiveaa.com.au\/lifestyle\/new-cancer-pill-saved-aussie-man-s-life\/","title":{"rendered":"New cancer pill saved Aussie man\u2019s life"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>A Melbourne man says a new cancer pill approved for use in the US saved his life.<\/h3>\n<p>Vic Blackwood, 68, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.heraldsun.com.au\/news\/victoria\/cancer-drug-that-melts-away-cells-in-melbourne-trials-approved-for-use-in-us\/news-story\/ece3995241d8b5f0bcfc956b7d5544d5\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">told the Herald Sun<\/a> he had fatal lumps on his lymph nodes and under his arms.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey said if we don\u2019t do anything, you\u2019ve got three weeks to live,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was so weak, I was in bed for 20 hours a day.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The drug &#8212; called venetoclax &#8212; saved Mr Blackwood\u2019s life \u2026 and produced a positive response in almost 80 per cent of the 116 participants in a trial at Royal Melbourne Hospital.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe change in me has been more dramatic than in anyone else,\u201d Mr Blackwood said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI can do anything now.
