{"id":17975,"date":"2016-07-05T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2016-07-05T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cms.fiveaa.com.au\/uncategorized\/premier-announces-north-terrace-tram-extension\/"},"modified":"2016-07-05T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2016-07-05T00:00:00","slug":"premier-announces-north-terrace-tram-extension","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cms.fiveaa.com.au\/news\/premier-announces-north-terrace-tram-extension\/","title":{"rendered":"Premier announces North Terrace tram extension"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>Premier Jay Weatherill has announced a $55m tram plan for Adelaide that will see the city\u2019s North Terrace line extended to the old Royal Adelaide Hospital site.<\/h3>\n<p>The upgrade will add three new stops on North Terrace, which will service the universities and old RAH site.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs we have seen with the development of the city\u2019s western Riverbank Precinct, this extension will also help to reactivate vacant sites, including key buildings along North Terrace,\u201d Mr Weatherill said on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>He said the project would help Adelaide become a \u201cmodern, vibrant and liveable city\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"366\" width=\"650\" class=\"media-element file-default nova-lazyload-image-wrapper lz-cont img-responsive\" src=\"https:\/\/cms.fiveaa.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/nth_tce_tram2.jpeg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Treasurer Tom Koutsantonis \u2013 who will deliver his state budget on Thursday \u2013 called the extension an investment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis tram extension along North Terrace is also an investment in SA jobs,\u201d he said. \u201cWe will ensure as many local jobs and contractors as possible are used during the project.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Construction is expected to begin within months and is predicted to finish in early 2018.<\/p>\n<p>The state government will fork out $50m for the upgrade while the Adelaide City Council will chip in $5m.<\/p>\n<p>The plan announced on Tuesday is believed to be the first stage of a longer-term plan to extend the tramline further east through Kent Town and to The Parade.<\/p>\n<p><strong>SEE ALSO: <a href=\"https:\/\/cms.fiveaa.com.au\/shows\/david-and-will\/eddie-betts-apologises\">EDDIE BETTS APOLOGISES<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>SEE ALSO: <a href=\"https:\/\/cms.fiveaa.com.au\/shows\/leon-byner\/leon-byner-lines-up-electricity-executives\">WHACK!
