The murder case against Cy Walsh over the death of his father, former Adelaide Crows coach Phil Walsh, will stretch into a second year.<\/h3>\n

The 27-year-old came before the Supreme Court for a directions hearing on Friday where the matter was adjourned to another hearing on July 29.<\/p>\n

He is charged over the stabbing murder of his father at the family home in Adelaide on July 3, 2015.<\/p>\n

Details of a directions hearing cannot be revealed.<\/p>\n

But at an open Supreme Court appearance in February, Walsh pleaded not guilty to the murder of his 55-year-old father, who was in his first year as senior coach of the Crows.<\/p>\n

It is understood his mental health will be a factor in the case but prosecutors are yet to accept that Walsh was mentally incompetent at the time of the alleged killing.<\/p>\n

Depending on psychiatric reports, the court could find Walsh not guilty of murder because of mental incompetence and could also rule that the objective elements of the crime had been proved.<\/p>\n

In such circumstances it will then consider setting a term of supervised detention under mental health provisions.<\/p>\n

In an early appearance in the Adelaide Magistrates Court the possibility was raised of Walsh experiencing a drug-induced psychosis at the time of the alleged murder.<\/p>\n

Phil Walsh died from multiple stab wounds, while his wife Meredith was taken to hospital and treated for a leg injury.<\/p>\n

His death shocked the AFL world as well as the wider community.<\/p>\n

Walsh had joined the Crows after stints as an assistant coach at several other AFL clubs.<\/p>\n
