SA SES has warned of possible storm surges and localised flooding along Adelaide\u2019s coastline on Monday afternoon.<\/h3>\n

Glenelg and Port Adelaide are at highest risk, according to the SES<\/a>, who have pre-positioned 10,000 sandbags and local council depots in Largs North and Glenelg North.<\/p>\n

Mr Halleday from the SES said strong winds and high tides had prompted the move.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are also warning the community about the prospect of storm surges along the coastline,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are expecting high seas this afternoon and this evening so our advice to people is to keep off beaches and jetties.\u201d<\/p>\n

Parts of Adelaide are set to be flooded as a low pressure system brings damaging winds and rain.<\/h3>\n

The weather bureau is forecasting gusts up to 100km\/h across the west coast, Kangaroo Island, Eyre and Yorke Peninsulas on Monday morning.<\/p>\n

According to the bureau<\/a>, affected locations will include Ceduna, Port Lincoln, Kingscote, Cleve and Maitland, extending to Port Pirie, Clare and Adelaide later this morning. <\/p>\n

The conditions will create heavy surf across the southern coast, with sea water flooding expected in low-lying areas along the Outer Harbor near Port Adelaide.<\/p>\n

Other parts of South Australia remain on flood watch, with up to 80mm of rain forecast to fall on the far northeastern corner of the state on Monday.<\/p>\n

“Conditions will cause sea levels to be significantly higher than indicated on tide tables today,” the bureau said in a severe weather warning it issues on Monday morning. “Sea levels along parts of Spencer Gulf and Gulf St Vincent coastlines are likely to be about one metre higher than the highest tide of the year.”<\/p>\n

“At the Outer Harbor tide gauge, the sea level is forecast to reach about 3.6 to 3.8 metres between about 5 and 6 pm. This is expected to cause sea water flooding of low lying areas.”<\/p>\n
