{"id":18604,"date":"2016-05-02T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2016-05-02T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cms.fiveaa.com.au\/uncategorized\/flight-attendant-reveals-why-planes-really-get-delayed\/"},"modified":"2016-05-02T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2016-05-02T00:00:00","slug":"flight-attendant-reveals-why-planes-really-get-delayed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cms.fiveaa.com.au\/lifestyle\/flight-attendant-reveals-why-planes-really-get-delayed\/","title":{"rendered":"Flight attendant reveals the real reason planes get delayed"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3 class=\"p1\">You\u2019ll be flabbergasted why planes are delayed,&nbsp;according to one flight attendant.<\/h3>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">One flight attendant talking with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.news.com.au\/travel\/travel-advice\/flights\/flight-attendant-tells-all-about-plane-nogo-items-which-can-cause-delays\/news-story\/426196226e13d54f8426d21da8abf849?utm_content=SocialFlow&amp;utm_campaign=EditorialSF&amp;utm_source=News.com.au&amp;utm_medium=Facebook\" target=\"_blank\">News.com.au<\/a> has revealed exactly why delays happen, and it might not be what you expect.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">They call the reasons \u201cno-go items\u201d &#8211; when crew members have to inform the flyers that they can\u2019t depart because perhaps an exit sign is missing its light cover or similar.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">It can be that minuscule.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s2\">\u201c<\/span><span class=\"s1\">These decisions are controlled by&nbsp;the Government, as is the master list of repairs that we cannot defer. We either fix them immediately or we don\u2019t take off,\u201d Sarah Steegar said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">Here are a few of the things that will cause delays:<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><strong><span class=\"s1\">1. Wet carpet &#8211; nope, a plane can\u2019t take off with wet carpet in an exit area.&nbsp;<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cThis is because if the aircraft should have an emergency landing in water, flight attendants must check the floor area for seepage around and under the door.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"plane\" title=\"BEST OF THE WEB\" height=\"407\" width=\"594\" style=\"width: 100%;\" class=\"media-element file-default nova-lazyload-image-wrapper lz-cont img-responsive\" src=\"https:\/\/cms.fiveaa.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/457958236.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><strong><span class=\"s1\">2. Missing emergency information cards\/demo equipment<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">There must be an information card in every seat back pocket, as well as the proper amount of demo sets (the ones they perform the safety demonstration with).<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">Apparently this is because in the case of a \u201cplanned emergency\u201d, attendants need that demo stuff on hand.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cIn a planned emergency things have to be done in a very specific way. There\u2019s no place for holding up our list of time-sensitive tasks for the passing off and sharing of equipment \u2014 just as frightened passengers can\u2019t be expected to share emergency information cards as they desperately try to learn, in a sweaty panic, what they didn\u2019t pay attention to or understand from the safety video.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><strong><span class=\"s1\">3. Broken overhead lights<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">Some of the cabin lights have mercury, and can create a hazmat situation if they\u2019re broken &#8211; so if they are, they must be cleaned up and changed before departure.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"plane\" title=\"BEST OF THE WEB\" height=\"404\" width=\"594\" style=\"width: 100%;\" class=\"media-element file-default nova-lazyload-image-wrapper lz-cont img-responsive\" src=\"https:\/\/cms.fiveaa.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/157244374.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><strong><span class=\"s1\">4. Ashtrays in the toilets<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">Yep, apparently people still try to smoke in the toilets &#8211; despite laws against it.
