Will you be responsible for sending the aircraft plummeting to the ground?<\/h3>\n<p>Probably not, it turns out, but you probably will get on the nerves of the flight crew.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.airlineupdates.net\/what-happens-when-you-dont-put-your-phone-on-airplane-mode-on-an-airplane\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Writing on airlineupdates.net<\/a>, a pilot has explained exactly what happens when a phone isn\u2019t placed on flight mode.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m going to blow the mind of every frequent flyer out there and say this: cell phones can and do interfere with airplanes,\u201d the pilot wrote.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cTransmitting cell phones can cause audible interference on the aircraft\u2019s radios. You\u2019ve probably heard this interference yourself when a phone is set near a speaker. It sounds like a \u201cdit-dit-dit-dit\u201d tone and it\u2019s pretty annoying.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The pilot said it was fairly rare occurrence.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThe interference doesn\u2019t happen every time a phone is on inside an airplane. I hear it maybe once or twice a month, and I fly about 50 flights every month. So it\u2019s rare, but I\u2019m guessing 2-3% of the flights is a lot more common than the \u2018once in a million\u2019 or \u2018never\u2019 that most people guess.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cIf you ask me if phones interfere, I\u2019ll say yes. If you ask if they\u2019re dangerous\u2026eh, not really. It\u2019s annoying, but the practical result of this interference is that the radio frequency is blocked for a few seconds,\u201d the pilot wrote.<\/p>\n<p>According to the post\u2019s author, however, if everyone on a plane decided not to switch to flight mode, there could be problems.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cOf course, there is plenty of attenuation between phones in the cabin and the pilots\u2019 radio.
