{"id":18910,"date":"2016-03-23T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2016-03-23T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cms.fiveaa.com.au\/uncategorized\/calls-to-apologise-to-tiger-star-dustin-martin\/"},"modified":"2016-03-23T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2016-03-23T00:00:00","slug":"calls-to-apologise-to-tiger-star-dustin-martin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cms.fiveaa.com.au\/sport\/calls-to-apologise-to-tiger-star-dustin-martin\/","title":{"rendered":"Calls to apologise to Tiger star Dustin Martin"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>A Melbourne footy commentator says Dustin Martin was treated unfairly after his drunken incident in a restaurant last year and the media should say sorry.<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sen.com.au\/news\/afl\/03-16\/media-owe-dustin-martin-an-apology-andy-maher#PI0scGHg9cmkTLqF.97\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Andy Maher said on SEN<\/a> that many commentators had assumed Martin was guilty before any details were released.<\/p>\n<p>Martin was eventually cleared of any wrong doing by Victoria Police.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI reckon we should, as an industry offer Dustin Martin an apology because at the core of this is an individual who we don\u2019t take into account at all,\u201d Maher said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe immediate assumption is that Dustin Martin has done something wrong so let\u2019s tear him to pieces.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow that the details and the facts of the matter certainly bring us a whole lot closer to the truth which is not the position that a lot of people took to begin with, I think he probably does deserve an apology.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Age\u2019s Rohan Connolly said the supercharged media cycle and reduced resources meant the media was operating these days without a safety net.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat we should learn is not to jump too quickly. Will we learn that?
