{"id":19077,"date":"2016-03-09T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2016-03-09T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cms.fiveaa.com.au\/uncategorized\/research-shows-taking-asprin-could-halve-chance-of-prostate-cancer\/"},"modified":"2016-03-09T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2016-03-09T00:00:00","slug":"research-shows-taking-asprin-could-halve-chance-of-prostate-cancer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cms.fiveaa.com.au\/lifestyle\/research-shows-taking-asprin-could-halve-chance-of-prostate-cancer\/","title":{"rendered":"Research shows that taking asprin could halve the chance of prostate cancer"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>A recent study of more than 13,000 cardiac patients has found that regularly taking asprin can significantly reduce a man\u2019s chance of prostate cancer.<\/h3>\n<p>Scientists at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/26915905\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Italian College of General Practitioners<\/a> found that men were 36 per cent less likely to develop the cancer if they had been taking asprin regularly for more than a year.<\/p>\n<p>And men who had been taking it for five years or more were 57 per cent less likely.<\/p>\n<p>Asprin has already been used for some time to treat heart disease.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/men\/health\/regular-aspirin-use-could-halve-chance-of-prostate-cancer\/?sf22094075=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">According to The Telegraph<\/a>, a spokesperson for the Italian researchers said:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Our findings indicate that low-dose aspirin might be associated with a reduction of risk of prostate cancer in patients with cardio or cerebrovascular [stroke-causing] diseases.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Raising patients\u2019 awareness of its beneficial role in the prevention of prostate cancer might help improve adherence to the long-term therapy for the prevention of vascular problems.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The findings follow a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.webmd.com\/prostate-cancer\/news\/20160105\/aspirin-may-decrease-death-from-prostate-cancer-study-finds\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Harvard study published in January<\/a> that suggested asprin could prevent the progress of prostate cancer.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We found that regular aspirin intake after prostate cancer diagnosis decreased the risk of prostate cancer death by almost 40 per cent,&#8221; said lead researcher Dr Christopher Allard.<\/p>\n<p>But Dr Allard added a warning.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;However it is premature to recommend aspirin for prevention of lethal prostate cancer.
