I couldn\u2019t believe it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mike said he and his partner Karen had to reassure the waiter after the run-in.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe incident really knocked his confidence and we had to take him to one side and let him know that we certainly didn\u2019t feel that way.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll we care about is someone having enthusiasm and passion. The rest we can teach.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The waiter named Andy, 45, was diagnosed with autism seven years ago and combines his waiting work with looking after his mother \u2013 who has Alzheimer\u2019s \u2013 as her registered carer.<\/p>\n<p>He started working at Grenache three weeks ago, but said this isn\u2019t the first time something like this has happened.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI always feel that it\u2019s automatically my fault and I go into defence mode. I always think I have to apologise,\u201d Andy said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen I apologised to the customer she made such a fuss.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe other table I was serving left a big tip so I knew it wasn\u2019t me.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI try not to take it personally because it has happened so many times in the past I have just got used to it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMike and Kaz have been so supportive saying it\u2019s not my fault.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe customers said they didn\u2019t know I was autistic but I shouldn\u2019t have to walk around with a t-shirt on explaining it.
