{"id":19134,"date":"2016-03-04T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2016-03-04T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cms.fiveaa.com.au\/uncategorized\/scientists-make-groundbreaking-discovery-in-fight-against-deadly-cancers\/"},"modified":"2016-03-04T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2016-03-04T00:00:00","slug":"scientists-make-groundbreaking-discovery-in-fight-against-deadly-cancers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cms.fiveaa.com.au\/news\/scientists-make-groundbreaking-discovery-in-fight-against-deadly-cancers\/","title":{"rendered":"Scientists make a groundbreaking discovery in the fight against deadly cancers"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>Scientists are claiming they have discovered cancer\u2019s \u201cAchilles heel\u201d after new research appears to open the way to developing treatments for cancers that spread throughout the body.<\/h3>\n<p>Scientists have made the \u201cgroundbreaking\u201d discovery that all cancer carries a \u2018flag\u2019, which can be spotted by the immune system, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/news\/health\/news\/12182401\/Scientists-find-Achilles-heel-of-cancer-offering-hope-for-most-deadly-cases.html?sf21931080=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reports The Telegraph<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>By multiplying a patient\u2019s immune cells in a lab, scientists believe they will be able to wipe out cancer, even if it has spread through the body.<\/p>\n<p>Dr Sergio Quezada from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ucl.ac.uk\/cancer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">UCL Cancer Institute<\/a> explained the process using a crime fighting&nbsp;analogy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe body\u2019s immune system acts as the police trying to tackle cancer, the criminals,\u201d said Dr Quezada said.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGenetically diverse tumours are like a gang of hoodlums involved in different crimes &#8211; from robbery to smuggling.
