{"id":19215,"date":"2016-02-29T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2016-02-29T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cms.fiveaa.com.au\/uncategorized\/lack-of-good-sleep-could-be-why-you-re-not-losing-weight\/"},"modified":"2016-02-29T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2016-02-29T00:00:00","slug":"lack-of-good-sleep-could-be-why-you-re-not-losing-weight","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cms.fiveaa.com.au\/lifestyle\/lack-of-good-sleep-could-be-why-you-re-not-losing-weight\/","title":{"rendered":"Lack of good sleep could be why you\u2019re not losing weight"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>A growing number of studies show that sleep deprivation can cause of host of problems, including weight gain.<\/h3>\n<p>Other problems associated with lack of sleep include an increase in overuse injuries, a decrease in muscle mass and a reduction in testosterone \u2013 which can lead to low sex drive, depression and bone loss, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/lifestyle\/wellness\/why-getting-enough-sleep-is-crucial-to-your-workout-routine\/2016\/02\/22\/cc40763c-d4f2-11e5-9823-02b905009f99_story.html\" target=\"_blank\">reports The Washington Post<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou can have two people who are doing the exact same workout and eating the same good nutrition, but one is seeing huge progress and the other isn\u2019t,\u201d US personal trainer Mansur Mendizabal told the Post.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA lot of the time, good sleep is the difference.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSleep is the only time the body is fully recovering and rebuilding,\u201d Mendizabal said.<\/p>\n<p>But it isn\u2019t just any old sleep.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"897\" width=\"1400\" class=\"media-element file-default nova-lazyload-image-wrapper lz-cont img-responsive\" src=\"https:\/\/cms.fiveaa.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/sleeping.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<h6>Experts recommend sleeping seven to eight hours a night<\/h6>\n<h3>\u201cIt\u2019s during the deep stages of sleep that all the tissues of the body repair,\u201d says sports medicine doctor John Broussard.<\/h3>\n<p>\u201cBut you have to get into all the stages of sleep in the proper sequence to get those restorative benefits.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s only by going through each stage in order and finally reaching deep sleep that the body can hit its \u201creset\u201d button, says Broussard.<\/p>\n<p>For those wanting to get the right amount (seven to eight hours) of the best quality sleep, Broussard has some tips.<\/p>\n<p>\u25cf Have a bright work environment during the day.<br><br \/>\n\t\u25cf Spend at least one hour outside every day.<br><br \/>\n\t\u25cf Create stress-free evenings.<br><br \/>\n\t\u25cf Take magnesium or melatonin, both of which have been shown to lessen muscle tension and anxiety, before bedtime. Warm milk can also help.<br><br \/>\n\t\u25cf Make sure your bedroom is cool and dark, with no TV or other electronics&nbsp;<br><br \/>\n\t\u25cf Keep a pen and paper on the nightstand for important to-dos.<br><br \/>\n\t\u25cf Don\u2019t keep your phone by the bed unless you use it as an alarm clock (in which case, don\u2019t check texts or emails).<\/p>\n<p>PT Mendizabal agrees sleep is crucial to achieving your weight goals.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSleep needs to be made a priority. If you don\u2019t sleep, your body is stressed, you crave food, your immune system is compromised,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>And if you can\u2019t manage seven to eight hours a night?<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSix hours is more realistic.
