On Monday, Facebook user Chris Harrigan from Victoria posted a story that he called the \u201ctrue crime story of the decade\u201d.<\/h3>\n

It concerned a man at a Frankston train station and a pack of angry seagulls and it was shared online all around the world<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The story went like this:<\/p>\n

\u201cGuys this is the true crime story of the decade:<\/em><\/p>\n

Yesterday a friend told me what might well be the best story I\u2019ve ever heard. She had caught the train in from Frankston. And while she was waiting for the train to come, she noticed a man sitting down on the platform with a bag of fish and chips. But he wasn\u2019t really eating them. He was just sort of letting them air.<\/em><\/p>\n

This attracted a few seagulls, who began to circle the platform. Instead of shooing the birds away, the man offered them a few chips. He\u2019d toss one a foot or so away from him. It was like he was beckoning them to come closer. He kept doing this, eking the chips out slowly, until there was a big group of seagulls in front of him, 15 or 20. A tiny army. He\u2019d throw them a chip every now and then \u2013 just enough to keep the birds interested, but not enough to sate them. It was frustrating. They were getting angry. Squawking. It was like he was rearing them up for\u2026 something.<\/em><\/p>\n

Then the train came, and everyone got on. But the man stayed on the ground with his chips. Just when the train was about to leave. It happened.<\/em><\/p>\n

Right before the doors closed, the man threw the entire bag of the fish and chips into the train. The entire flock of seagulls followed the bag. And the doors closed. Inside the train: pandemonium.<\/em><\/p>\n

The next train stop was five minutes away.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Like most who read it, you\u2019re probably thinking, yeah right\u2026 not true.<\/h3>\n

But is it?<\/p>\n

As the story spread<\/a>, a caller contacted ABC\u2019s Triple J radio station and said the story was true and that he\u2019d seen it with his \u201cown eyes\u201d.<\/p>\n

CALLER: “This is actually a very old story, which is why I’ve called up… Hence why Metro probably wouldn’t be aware of it. It happened about 2007, back in my uni days. It’s pretty much as it’s been reported on social media. Obviously we didn’t have smartphones or anything back then, but I do have a friend who can corroborate as well, who was there, but unfortunately he’s in South America doing god-knows-what.”<\/em><\/p>\n
