Only months after her professional surfer son Mick Fanning was attacked by a shark while competing&nbsp;in South Africa, another of her sons, Peter, died in his sleep. There had been speculation the 43-year-old\u2019s death had been been drug-related, but on Tuesday, his mother dispelled the rumours.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" lang=\"en\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">How Mick Fanning\u2019s brother died <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/vvxiO23W3u\">https:\/\/t.co\/vvxiO23W3u<\/a><\/p>&mdash; news.com.au (@newscomauHQ) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/newscomauHQ\/status\/681669106765053953\">December 29, 2015<\/a><\/blockquote>&#13;\n<script async src=\"\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Elizabeth told&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.goldcoastbulletin.com.au\/news\/gold-coast\/mick-fannings-mother-elizabeth-has-ended-speculation-on-peters-death\/story-fnj94idh-1227691029492\"><span class=\"s2\">Gold Coast Bulletin<\/span><\/a>&nbsp;that according to the coroner\u2019s reporter, Peter had died from an enlarged heart,&nbsp;explaining to the publication that her son\u2019s heart had failed&nbsp;him because of a serious hyperthyroid problem, and that the same disease had almost taken his father\u2019s life three years before.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">She went on to say that after her husband\u2019s scare, her son, who worked in construction,&nbsp;had been on heart medication and maintaining a healthy diet until December 16<\/span><span class=\"s3\">th<\/span><span class=\"s1\">&nbsp;\u2013 the day he was found dead in his&nbsp;Tweeds Head apartment. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">After Peter&#8217;s death, Mick took to social media to tribute his older brother with a touching post.<\/span><\/p>\n\n<blockquote class=\"instagram-media\" data-instgrm-captioned data-instgrm-version=\"6\" style=\" background:#FFF; border:0; border-radius:3px; box-shadow:0 0 1px 0 rgba(0,0,0,0.5),0 1px 10px 0 rgba(0,0,0,0.15); margin: 1px; max-width:658px; padding:0; width:99.375%; width:-webkit-calc(100% - 2px); width:calc(100% - 2px);\">   <p style=\" margin:8px 0 0 0; padding:0 4px;\"> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/_YT8DtnEuF\/\" style=\" color:#000; font-family:Arial,sans-serif; font-size:14px; font-style:normal; font-weight:normal; line-height:17px; text-decoration:none; word-wrap:break-word;\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">I am so grateful for the incredible love and well wishes that have come my way since learning of my eldest brother&#39;s passing this morning. Like all my big brothers, Peter will always be a hero to me. I have so many great memories of the good times we have all spent together and they will be with me forever. We recently caught up and he told me how proud he was of me and how much he loves watching me compete. Today was one of the most challenging days of my life but I knew I could find the strength to take part in the final event of the season because that\u2019s what Pete would want. I also want to give special thanks to my other brothers \u2013 my friends on tour \u2013 for their support, I couldn\u2019t have got through today without them. I would ask for some privacy on this matter while we come to terms with this devastating loss. Big thanks from our entire family.
