&#8220;d*ckhead&#8221;.<\/h3>\n<p>\u201cI look back at my time and people say you don\u2019t have regrets \u2013 well I have so many regrets about my football career,\u201d Mooney has told SEN radio.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s virtually the first five or six years of my career that I absolutely wasted because I was a dickhead,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m so angry with myself with the way I went about my football.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"media-element file-default nova-lazyload-image-wrapper lz-cont img-responsive\" src=\"https:\/\/cms.fiveaa.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/mooney-north-melbourne.jpg\" width=\"729\" height=\"410\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<h6>Image | Mooney during his days at North Melbourne<\/h6>\n<p>Mooney was initially drafted by North Melbourne \u2013 a club renowned for its partying in the 90s \u2013 where he says he spent \u201cthree glorious unprofessional years\u201d and won a premiership in 1999.<\/p>\n<p>After moving from North to Geelong, \u201cI continued down that path for the next couple of years,\u201d Mooney said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was going out a lot, moved down to Geelong and the first time you\u2019re down there the nightlife is fantastic.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve just come off a premiership and I\u2019m 20 years of age \u2013 I\u2019m flying thinking how good am I.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was way overweight and when I got back into the team I was six or seven kilos overweight \u2013 it was just shocking.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mooney ended up playing in two premierships during a golden era for the Cats, but when he arrived in the early 2000s he says the club was in bad shape \u2013 \u201cit was $10 million in debt, the stadium was falling over and the captain and coach had just walked out.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"media-element file-default nova-lazyload-image-wrapper lz-cont img-responsive\" src=\"https:\/\/cms.fiveaa.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/mooney-flag.jpg\" width=\"650\" height=\"366\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<h6>Image | Mooney played in two Geelong premierships<\/h6>\n<p>\u201cI remember getting there and having osteitis pubis but not telling anyone being stupid and na\u00efve because I was too dumb to go to the physio,\u201d Mooney said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBasically, first session in the groins starting hurting again and I missed virtually the whole season and poor Bomber didn\u2019t know about it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mooney says he wanted to leave the club after he fell out with coach Mark Thompson, but was able to patch things up.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c(Thompson) rang me and just said we\u2019ll fix this, let\u2019s sit down and fix this \u2013 because I was gone, I couldn\u2019t stand him,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter that phone call I was back on track and one morning before pre-season training I looked in the mirror and said: \u2018You\u2019re a joke, you\u2019ve done nothing with your career, the premiership was given to you, you\u2019re a stupid na\u00efve young kid and about to be thrown on the scrap heap pull your head out of your backside\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It was the wake up call Mooney needed, losing seven kilograms during that pre-season and finishing top five in the Cat\u2019s best and fairest for
