This “statistic” about swallowing eight spiders a year was not only completely made up, it was made up to prove how quickly fake info can travel around the internet when people don’t check their facts!<\/span><\/p>\n

Next time you see a “fact”, take a quick look at fact checking websites like Snopes, FactCheck or WhoWhatWhen to make sure that you’re all good to share that latest meme about Facebook charging people money or Halloween falling on Friday the 13th for the first time in 666 years.<\/p>\n

Back to swallowing spiders in your sleep…<\/h3>\n

Scientific American says it’s highly unlikely to happen, both from the spider’s standpoint and ours as humans. Spiders are mostly concerned with tending their webs or hunting in areas where there aren’t any humans nearby, and they think of humans more like “a really big rock” and that we’re “so large that we’re really just part of the landscape”.<\/p>\n

So it’s the old they’re-more-scared-of-you-than-you-are-of-them thing.<\/p>\n

So fret not, pull down your protective bed netting, and – most importantly – don’t share stuff you’re not sure is true all over social media, or you could be the reason that someone else doesn’t sleep for fear of all the spiders.<\/p>\n
