The two metre piece of wing that washed up on a Reunion Island beach off the coast of Madagascar has been confirmed as belonging to missing Malaysian Airlines Flight MH370.<\/h3>\n

Malaysia’s Prime Minister says the wing debris that washed up on the shore was part of the missing Boeing 777.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is with a very heavy heart that I must tell you that an international team of experts has conclusively confirmed that the aircraft debris … is indeed MH370,\u201d Prime Minister Najib Razak told reporters, according to News.com.au.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe now have physical evidence that, as I announced on 24th March last year, flight MH370 tragically ended in the southern Indian Ocean.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe burden and uncertainty faced by the families during this time has been unspeakable. It is my hope that this confirmation, however tragic and painful, will at least bring certainty to the families and loved ones of the 239 people onboard MH370. They have our deepest sympathy and prayers,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

MH370 went missing 515 days ago during a routine commercial flight between Kuala Lumpur and Beijing with 239 people on board.<\/p>\n

The resounding conclusion, yet to be proved, is that the plane crashed into the Indian Ocean… But why remains a mystery.<\/p>\n

Further investigations on the debris could provide information about the plane’s final moments.<\/p>\n

\u201cWas it in a violent impact with the sea or not? This piece looks like it is in good condition, it doesn\u2019t look like the part of a plane that fell vertically in the water at 900 kilometres an hour,\u201d said the Prime Minister.<\/p>\n

Further investigations could also reveal more about the location of the plane, based on things like the barnacles attached to the debris.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf it has cold-water barnacles on it that might tell them it went down further south than they think. Or if it\u2019s got only tropical barnacles, that might tell them it went down further north,\u201d a crustacean specialist from the Australian museum told News.com.au.<\/p>\n
