Poor sleep increases your risk of drinking alcohol and making unhealthy food choices.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Researchers at the University of Copenhagen found that poor sleepers find it harder to cut down on smoking and more often than not rely on fatty foods and alcohol to keep them alert.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>2. Colds become very common&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>An Australian study found that those who don\u2019t give their body enough time to rest and repair are more likely to catch a cold or flu &#8211; and take longer to overcome the symptoms.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3. You could die<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s a pretty harsh statement, but in 2007 the University of Warwick found that men who regularly slept less than eight hours a night had a 21% higher chance of dying during any given time period.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>4. Your genes change<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The University of Surrey found that a lack of sleep can actually disrupt hundreds of genes which are essential for good health.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>5.
