{"id":22405,"date":"2015-07-09T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2015-07-09T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cms.fiveaa.com.au\/uncategorized\/how-the-crows-discovered-walsh\/"},"modified":"2015-07-09T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2015-07-09T00:00:00","slug":"how-the-crows-discovered-walsh","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cms.fiveaa.com.au\/sport\/how-the-crows-discovered-walsh\/","title":{"rendered":"How the Crows discovered Walsh"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>As the Adelaide Crows continue to reel from the shock death of coach Phil Walsh, Mark Ricciuto has told the story of how Walsh came to be&nbsp;the club\u2019s coach.<\/h3>\n<p>Writing in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.adelaidenow.com.au\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Advertiser<\/a>, Ricciuto said \u201cthe pressure was on\u201d after axing previous coach Brenton Sanderson.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.428571429;\">He said the club spoke with everyone who could help them develop a short list, but one name kept coming up<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.428571429;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was amazing the amount of calls that keep coming back to Walshy, whether it be from Port players and officials past and present, or Eagles players past and present. Or other coaches and administrators who had crossed his path,&#8221; Ricciuto said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was becoming increasingly clear that we had discovered \u2014 and I emphasise, discovered \u2014 a man with a trail of the utmost respect that demanded we go after him. And so we did.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ricciuto said he knew Walsh was their man as soon as they met.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI clearly remember at our first meeting; it was like a perfect match from the first moment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI could have signed him up then and there but obviously we had others to research first.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Ricciuto said he feels \u201crobbed\u201d because he was convinced the Phil Walsh story would have a fairy tale ending.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI could see him one day being a premiership coach. He had what it took. I am extremely confident when I say that \u2014 and I do not say it lightly.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.428571429;\">Ricciuto said although the coming weeks would be tough, it was important to soldier on for Phil\u2019s sake.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201cLet\u2019s not turn this into a circus. Let\u2019s show respect.
