A mother has wound up in a wheelchair for the rest of her life after the innocent action of using her best friend’s makeup brush.<\/h3>\n

How can a makeup brush put you in a wheelchair?<\/p>\n

Easily.<\/p>\n

Jo Gilchrist can vouch for it.<\/p>\n

The young mum is in a wheelchair for life after using her best friend’s makeup brush, which gave her life-threatening staphylococcus aureus (best known as “Staph”).<\/p>\n

\"WOMAN<\/p>\n

Jo was simply trying to cover up a blemish with her best mate’s brush, when she was infected with the bacteria.<\/p>\n

She told the Daily Mail it started as a back ache that just kept getting worse.<\/p>\n

“I was in incredible pain and nothing would work. I honestly thought I was going to die – the pain was worse than childbirth.”<\/p>\n

She was airlifted from her home in Warwick to Brisbane’s Princess Alexandra Hospital in February, undergoing emergency surgery after the bacteria from the brush attacked her spine.<\/p>\n

\"WHEELCHAIR<\/p>\n

Despite the incredible struggle, she is fighting the infection and learning to walk again for small periods so she can look after her two year old son, Tommy.<\/p>\n

Staph is carried on the skin or the nose of healthy people – so it is simply spread by skin-on-skin contact, or open wounds – in Jo’s case it was a pimple.<\/p>\n
