This Sunday, it will be a year since Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 went missing. This week, a senior captain has revealed a possible theory to the mystery of the lost plane.<\/h3>\n

There have been plenty of “theories” about what has happened to the plane, so how is this one any different?<\/p>\n

Recently, a senior 777 captain, who has closely analysed MH370’s flight data, has revealed his theory on where the plane is\u2026 And many of the investigators involved in the search have labeled the theory as “credible”.<\/span><\/p>\n

British Senior Captain Simon Hardy works with a major commercial airline, and believes MH370 was taken on an emotional “last farewell” past the pilot’s home island of Penang before being deliberately landed in the ocean.<\/span><\/p>\n

Hardy studied the missing plane’s flight data for six months, calculating that after it left Kuala Lumpur, MH370 lost contact with air traffic control over the China sea, which is where four flight information regions intersect.<\/p>\n

Once the transponder was switched off, he thinks the “aircraft did something quite remarkable.”<\/p>\n

Captain Hardy says it flew in and out of Malaysia and Thailand airspace eight times.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve never seen anything like that but it is a good way to cause confusion between the controllers,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

It also did a sharp U-turn towards Penang.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt took me months to work out what this was,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Captain Hardy used his own flight experience across Australia to get a better understanding of why MH370 pilots Zaharie Ahmad Shah and Fariq Abdul Hamid did the U-turn.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe clue was Ayers Rock\u2026 I have done the same manoeuvre there, to look down and get a great view. Somebody was taking a last emotional look at Penang.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSomeone did a nice long turn and looked down on Penang. It\u2019s perhaps the only clue to the perpetrator.\u201d<\/p>\n

In addition, Captain Hardy believes the search site in the Indian Ocean is about 100 nautical miles from where MH370 actually lies.<\/p>\n

The theory has been published in Flight International Magazine, as well as the flight global website, and has garnered support from Britain’s top safety specialist, David Learmount.<\/p>\n

“Since Captain Simon Hardy revealed in Flightglobal\/Flight International his calculations about where Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 is likely to have come to rest, the Australian Transport Safety Bureau \u2014 leading the MH370 search team \u2014 has spoken at length to him,\u201d Learmount said.<\/p>\n

\u201cDespite worldwide interest in his work, nobody \u2014 yet \u2014 has suggested his calculations are anything but logical and mathematically sound.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cCaptain Hardy had tried to communicate his calculations to the ATSB before talking to us, but they were so bombarded with theories, most of them crackpot, that they didn\u2019t take any notice of him until we published his calculations online back in mid-December 2014, and in the magazine (Flight International) in mid-January.\u201d<\/p>\n

The search for the missing plane continues.<\/p>\n
