{"id":24749,"date":"2015-02-10T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2015-02-10T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cms.fiveaa.com.au\/uncategorized\/sa-government-unveils-ambitious-agenda\/"},"modified":"2015-02-10T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2015-02-10T00:00:00","slug":"sa-government-unveils-ambitious-agenda","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cms.fiveaa.com.au\/news\/sa-government-unveils-ambitious-agenda\/","title":{"rendered":"SA govt unveils ambitious agenda"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>South Australia&#8217;s Labor government will consider radical tax reforms and push for Adelaide to become carbon-neutral as it looks to boost its lagging economy.<\/h3>\n<p>Addressing the first sitting of parliament for the year on behalf of the government, SA Governor Hieu Van Le said the state economy was in rapid transition but would emerge more prosperous.<\/p>\n<p>With the government recently floating a greater role for nuclear energy and a potential change to the state&#8217;s time zone, Mr Le said more big ideas were on the cards.<\/p>\n<p>Adelaide would become the world&#8217;s first carbon-neutral city under an ambitious plan to make electric and hybrid vehicles the preferred form of transport within the CBD by 2025.<\/p>\n<p><strong>SEE ALSO: <a href=\"https:\/\/cms.fiveaa.com.au\/shows\/jeremy-cordeaux\/south-australia-s-nuclear-game-changer\">SA&#8217;S NUCLEAR GAME CHANGER<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The government will establish a new green agency designed to help businesses attract sustainable investment and push for greater two-way trade with South East Asia.<\/p>\n<p>Major changes to state taxes could also be on the cards, with plans to issue a reform discussion paper.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The government is open to radical reform to our taxation system,&#8221; Mr Le said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Nothing is out of bounds, be it taxes, levies or concessions.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The government will introduce restrictions on political donations and paid lobbying work for former politicians.<\/p>\n<p>But members of parliament could be rewarded with higher pay, with the government flagging a remuneration review to attract the best and brightest.<\/p>\n<p>All new school teachers will be required to hold Masters level qualifications by 2020 and the government will consider merging some schools.<\/p>\n<p>Other ideas include a specialised court assistance service and an early warning system for victims of domestic violence.<\/p>\n<p>Business groups welcomed plans to renew the state&#8217;s social housing stock and reform taxes, saying the changes are long overdue.<\/p>\n<p><strong>SEE ALSO: <a href=\"https:\/\/cms.fiveaa.com.au\/shows\/rowey-bicks\/dangerfield-making-the-right-sounds-says-dwayne-russell\">DANGERFIELD MAKING THE RIGHT SOUNDS: RUSSELL<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>SEE ALSO: <a href=\"https:\/\/cms.fiveaa.com.au\/shows\/david-mark-jane\/phil-cooery-rates-abbott-s-chances\">PHIL COOREY RATES ABBOTT&#8217;S CHANCES<\/a><\/strong><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>South Australia&#8217;s Labor government will consider radical tax reforms and push for Adelaide to become carbon-neutral as it looks to boost its lagging economy.
