{"id":24897,"date":"2015-02-02T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2015-02-02T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cms.fiveaa.com.au\/uncategorized\/henry-keogh-ordered-to-face-retrial\/"},"modified":"2015-02-02T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2015-02-02T00:00:00","slug":"henry-keogh-ordered-to-face-retrial","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cms.fiveaa.com.au\/news\/henry-keogh-ordered-to-face-retrial\/","title":{"rendered":"Keogh denies murdering fiancee in 1994"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>An Adelaide man who spent almost two decades in jail has again denied drowning his fiancee in the bath in 1994.<\/h3>\n<p>Henry Victor Keogh, now 59, pleaded not guilty in the South Australian Supreme Court on Monday to murdering Anna-Jane Cheney, 29, in the bath tub of their Adelaide home.<\/p>\n<p>His murder conviction was set aside last December, when the Court of Criminal Appeal ordered him to face a retrial.<\/p>\n<p>Keogh, who was subsequently granted bail, was jailed for at least 25 years after being convicted of Ms Cheney&#8217;s murder.<\/p>\n<p>He lost numerous appeals, but the conviction was overturned after new SA legislation allowed him to challenge the verdict on the basis of fresh and compelling evidence.<\/p>\n<p>The Appeal Court concluded the trial had amounted to a miscarriage of justice, finding the autopsy on Ms Cheney was &#8220;inadequate in material respects&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>The judges said the opinions of the then-chief forensic pathologist were no more than prejudicial speculation and that he failed to consider other possible causes of death.<\/p>\n<p>The case has been adjourned to March 20 for a directions hearing.<\/p>\n<p><strong>SEE ALSO: <a href=\"https:\/\/cms.fiveaa.com.au\/news\/jennifer-rankine-resigns\">JENNIFER RANKINE RESIGNS<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>SEE ALSO: <a href=\"https:\/\/cms.fiveaa.com.au\/shows\/david-mark-jane\/murray-mouth-wake-up-call\">MURRAY MOUTH WAKE UP CALL<\/a><\/strong><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>An Adelaide man who spent almost two decades in jail has again denied drowning his fiancee in the bath in 1994.
