The explosive revelation was given to FIVEAA Breakfast after an outage left staff at all major SA hospitals with no or restricted access to email, internet and electronic patient records for two hours on Wednesday afternoon.<\/p>\n

\u201cSunrise is the new electronic patient administration system that was launched in January after we were told by the government they\u2019d scrapped the troubled EPAS system,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cHow\u2019s this — yesterday we were contacted by an IT professional with a close and intimate understanding of the industry and this person told us it\u2019s not quite what it seems\u2026<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re told that EPAS was basically a cosmetically different version of the already existing program called Sunrise. So in other words EPAS was just a rebadged Sunrise. The program was always Sunrise and when the government scrapped EPAS back in January it seems all they really scrapped was the name, which is why the problems reoccurred this week.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo on Wednesday when a two-hour outage caused headaches for professionals across the state it was in fact the same old troubled EPAS system which cost the state at least $420 million\u2026<\/p>\n
