\u201cWe\u2019ve been working on this policy for some time and recently the Labor shadow cabinet signed it off. We\u2019re going through a process at the moment to develop a policy that we would like to take to the next election. This has been suggested by a few members of our backbench, we\u2019ve heard it from educators, we\u2019ve also heard it from parents.<\/p>\n
\u201cRecently there was a NSW trial of banning mobile phone in schools and it\u2019s had some really amazing impacts. It hasn\u2019t just been the obvious thing either about more attentiveness in the classroom\u2026 One school found that the handball courts were being used for the first time in years\u2026<\/p>\n
\u201cTaking the phone away from kids\u2026 seems to make a lot of sense. We want to get it right\u2026 our policy is to initiate trials across a number of public schools and we want to invite the private school system to be part of that trial process as well with a view of implementing a ban of phones at school.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
