The future of Keith Hospital appears secure following concerns last month<\/a> it had run out of funding.<\/h3>\n

FIVEAA Breakfast\u2019s David Penberthy reported during Tuesday\u2019s Breaking @ 8 segment:<\/p>\n

Incoming South East Local Health Network Board Chair Grant King has struck a deal between the Tatiara Council and the Minister for Health and Wellbeing Stephen Wade to fund the Keith Hospital through to the end of the financial year and the completion of a long term sustainable plan for the hospital.<\/p>\n

Grant King is part of the Government\u2019s plan to devolve central control from the city to the regions and is the incoming chair of the Limestone Coast Local Health Network.<\/p>\n

The Minister met with Tatiara Council and Keith Hospital board representatives and local member Nick McBride recently to discuss the future. Since those meetings, Grant King has been negotiating between the Council and the State Government to get an outcome for the Keith Community.<\/p>\n

The Tatiara Council will commit $70,000 and the State Government will match this $70,000 by bringing forward next financial year funding for the hospital. If further resources are needed to maintain current operations to the end of the financial year then next year\u2019s budget will be made available.<\/p>\n

The state government funding will see the hospital through to the end of the financial year so that a sustainable and long term plan can be put in place for the hospital.<\/p>\n

The Federal Government is also providing approximately $20,000 over the same period through the Rural District Workforce Agency to support a locum doctor.<\/p>\n

It is good to see three levels of government working together to provide support to the hospital.<\/p>\n

Through the negotiating work of Grant King this is a positive outcome for the Keith Community. It highlights the importance of regional health leadership under a devolved model. This money is a short term arrangement and does not change the need for the hospital to act on the business case that is received in late May to make the hospital sustainable into the future.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
