\u201cThe response that we got from the Motor Accident Commission — contrary to the minster\u2019s reassurances about how others including SAPOL are going to pick up the cudgels when it comes to getting these messages out\u2026<\/p>\n
\u201cThe MAC is clearly of the view that there is a link between its inability to provide any kind of messaging around road safety and the fact that the rate of deaths and injuries on the road has gone up so much.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n
Penbo quoted from a statement from the MAC:<\/p>\n
\u2018Sorry, we won\u2019t be available to make media comment. Since the government\u2019s decision late last year that MAC would cease its road safety responsibility on June 30 2018, and ultimately shut down, we have not provided any media comment since December last year, with those requests being referred to SAPOL or the minister.<\/p>\n
\u2018It is disappointing particularly as it is the removal of a constant road safety voice and given during this time the road toll has sadly risen, but unfortunately the decision is out of our control.\u2019<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
