Mr Marshall told FIVEAA Breakfast on Thursday:<\/p>\n
\u201cLet\u2019s be very clear, our first preference is for South Australians to fill these areas, these jobs, these skill shortages that we have. But when they don\u2019t we shouldn\u2019t be leaving these jobs unfilled because when we do it actually constrains the productivity capacity of the entire state.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur first point is always to fill a job with a South Australian, but where there is a persistent skill shortage we want to be able to have this nuanced approach to bring in skilled migrants in a targeted way.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe can\u2019t be bloody minded about this. We can\u2019t say there a jobs there they should be filled by South Australians. The reality is they are not being filled by South Australians. There are hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of jobs in regional South Australia where South Australians don\u2019t want them.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
FIVEAA\u2019s David Penberthy later said:<\/p>\n
\u201cI reckon if you put it in plain English what the premier was saying is there is a hard core of South Australians who are basically job snobs and they would rather sit around at home than get their hands dirty doing the type of work that is needed in regional areas.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
