Prime Minister Scott Morrison has told FIVEAA\u2019s Leon Byner he is looking at \u201clegal remedies\u201d after a gunman live streamed last week\u2019s Christchurch terrorist attack on social media.<\/h3>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re looking specifically at the legal remedies that we have available for us here in Australia,\u201d Mr Morrison told FIVEAA on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Asked whether Australia would take its own action, the PM said \u201cI intend to\u201d, but restated his intention to take the matter up with other G20 countries.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe need to act in concert with other large economies because that\u2019s when the social media companies, I think, will be really forced to take action.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ll get it right, we\u2019ll work carefully and I want to work with the companies themselves. They have the technological capability. The question is do they have the will\u2026<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople use live streaming all the time, they do it when they\u2019re having birthday celebrations\u2026 that\u2019s all peaceful and that\u2019s a happy purpose for this technology\u2026 but as we know it\u2019s weaponised by terrorists to push out and incite others to commit the most horrendous of acts.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you\u2019re going to build these products for people to use you\u2019ve also got to make them safe for the public. It\u2019s no different to making a toy safe for a child, and if it\u2019s not safe then you take it off the shelves. I really do think there\u2019s a parallel here.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you can write an algorithm to ensure that when you look on your mobile phone you can get an ad on whatever you\u2019ve been surfing the net on\u2026 then of course they have the capability to write algorithms to immediately identify content of this nature and to be able to screen it out.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
