Graham Cornes says \u201cthere has to be a better way\u201d as racial vilification continues despite the current trend of calling it out.<\/h3>\n

This week the footy world has rallied around Eddie Betts after he shared a racial slur directed at him on social media<\/a> last weekend.<\/p>\n

\u201cEveryone\u2019s descended on it,\u201d Cornesy told FIVEAA. \u201cThere\u2019s been outrage and it\u2019s been a massive story. Does it help to solve the issue or does it throw petrol on the fire?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSome people love that notoriety\u2026 some people write absolutely vile things with absolute impunity. Being in the public eye you do cop a little bit of it.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think ignoring it is almost as good as trying to call it out, because calling it out — we\u2019re much more aware of it and I don\u2019t know whether it\u2019s as prevalent now as it was once before — but calling it out hasn\u2019t seemed to work.\u201d<\/p>\n

MARK BICKLEY: <\/strong>\u201cWhat if we took this approach to people yelling abuse over the fence and just, oh well, ignore it. By calling people out by making them accountable that\u2019s what stops it. And it educates people.\u201d<\/p>\n

CORNESY:<\/strong> \u201cThere has to be a better way.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n
