\u201cI\u2019ve been contacted by a parent who has a son who\u2019s almost two years old and he\u2019s been plagued by respiratory issues ever since he was a baby. They\u2019ve been in and out of the WCH over the last couple of years and what\u2019s happened is in the past week or so this family has had their son admitted yet again from emergency. He was dealt with promptly.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s really important with his condition — because it\u2019s a respiratory problem — whenever he catches a virus or a cold it gets real serious. Historically what has happened is that they keep him isolated, he gets his own room. When they arrived at the WCH this time there\u2019s a sign up saying: \u2018Cassia ward is currently closed, please report to medical short stay ward, thank you.\u2019<\/p>\n
\u201cThe reason that this family has been given for the fact that the private rooms have been closed is SA Health in its wisdom has decided to close an entire ward because it\u2019s not as busy at this time of year in order to save money.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is what the dad said to me: \u2018This is unacceptable. It\u2019s not a medical decision clearly because it\u2019s apparently fine for him now to be close and exposed to other kids but every other time we\u2019ve gone there they\u2019ve said we\u2019ll get him into his own room. If he catches another different virus in this open ward he will be in there longer or will be back in a few days when it kicks in.\u2019<\/p>\n
