\u201cI\u2019ve got a very long list of family events that Julie missed out on and I\u2019m not talking about just birthday parties — I\u2019m talking about the death of our parents. She wasn\u2019t here when our parents died because she had commitments overseas. She wasn\u2019t here for my wedding, she didn\u2019t go to my husband\u2019s 70th<\/sup>, the list goes on.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
Ms Bishop — a former foreign minister, deputy PM and deputy Liberal leader — announced on Thursday she wouldn\u2019t recontest the next election.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think she would\u2019ve made the most amazing leader,\u201d Mary Lou said. \u201cShe can connect with people. She bubbles with personality. She is a joy and a delight and she lights up a room \u2026 she really, really does.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cFor her personally I\u2019m glad she didn\u2019t get [the leadership]. I think the sacrifices that she has made over the last 20 odd years in politics have been enormous.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
