\u201cLabor has suffered a sharp fall in popular support after a week of incendiary political claims over border protection, with the party leading the Coalition by 51 to 49 per cent in its narrowest result in more than six months.<\/p>\n
\u201cVoters have shifted against Labor in significant numbers amid the escalating row over the refugee medical transfer law passed by Parliament last week, cutting the party\u2019s lead over the Coalition from the previous result of 54 to 46 per cent last December.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
\u201cI don\u2019t think you can take any election for granted\u2026 border protection and border security are so sensitive to the Australian public. Once it starts to get politicised you can throw away the facts because there are lots of myths and over complications but if you can paint yourself into the corner that\u2019s strong on border protection it certainly does resonate with the Australian community.<\/p>\n
\u201cI just sense at family barbecues and on the sidelines watching the grandkids play sport that there could be a bit of a momentum change back to the Coalition.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s just what I\u2019m sensing out and about but I\u2019d be interested to know if other people think the same and this could be a real turning point.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n
