A plan to extend the tram network into North Adelaide is close to finalised, reports FIVEAA\u2019s Leon Byner.<\/h3>\n

\u201cIt is my understanding that we are well on the way for trams going up O\u2019Connell,\u201d Leon said on Thursday. \u201cThat\u2019s what I\u2019ve been told today.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe businesses in O\u2019Connell St have been doing it tough. We\u2019ve had a hotel that\u2019s shut\u2026 we\u2019ve had a number of cafes and restaurants — which were at one stage busy as — shutting.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat area of town needs a real shot in the arm. We\u2019ll keep you posted.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The extension will also include a \u201cpark and ride\u201d zone in North Adelaide, said Leon.<\/p>\n

Asked whether the extension would happen \u201cfairly soon\u201d, Transport Minister Stephan Knoll said:<\/p>\n

\u201cThat is something that we said we\u2019d look at and it\u2019s something that Infrastructure South Australia, which is rapidly getting up and going at the moment, will be looking at.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve now got the board in place. I understand the staff have now been seconded and also we\u2019ve actually got tenders going out for some of the work that ISA needs to do.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019ll look at that idea and where it\u2019s ranked against other priorities.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
