Aussie rock legend Jimmy Barnes says \u201cdidn\u2019t mean to tar everyone with the same brush\u201d in the raw depiction of his tough childhood growing up in Elizabeth when he wrote his best selling memoir \u2018Working Class Boy\u2019.<\/h3>\n

\u201cSome of the best years of my life were spent there, and some of the worst,\u201d Barnesy told FIVEAA on Wednesday. \u201cI had wonderful friends, wonderful people.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThere were families who were struggling just like us who didn\u2019t have the same problems as us. These problems, they weren\u2019t unique to us, but I\u2019m telling the story about our family and a lot of the problems came from alcohol, came from fear and shame and all that sort of stuff.<\/p>\n

\u201cAlthough you were brought up in Elizabeth, you might have been living next door to me, but you never necessarily had the same problems as me.<\/p>\n

\u201cI didn\u2019t mean to tar everyone with the same brush. A few people got that wrong but once I explained it they\u2019re generally ok with it.<\/p>\n

\u201cElizabeth has incredible families, incredible spirit but it\u2019s obviously had problems. There was a lot of issues when I was growing up there\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
