Penbo read out on air an email from a business owner who asked to remain nameless:<\/p>\n
\u2018We own a business on Port Road, which previously had five car parks in front of it. We now have two due to the installation of a pedestrian crossing.<\/p>\n
\u2018Obviously the crossing is an improvement to road safety in the area but there was no consultation with us as to the impact of the exact location of the crossing to our business\u2026<\/p>\n
\u2018We do have regular pickups and deliveries by trucks that are critical to our business. When I raised the issue of the crossing being situated directly in front of our driveway DPTI responded that they didn\u2019t realise what we actually did. No, because they googled our business, made an assumption and moved forward without walking into our doors to even speak to us.<\/p>\n
\u2018As a result, a considerable amount of time at our expense was spent by us and required involving a state minister and a federal minister to get anywhere and it was only my threat to go public with the issue — despite my strong dislike of doing so — which is what I believe what made them move the crossing all of two meters.<\/p>\n
\u2018There is still an impact daily to our business\u2026\u2019<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
Penbo said it was a \u201cclassic example of the kind of business altering circumstances that can be created by this giant, slothful bureaucracy with absolute zero thought given to the impact it\u2019s going to have on established businesses\u201d.<\/p>\n\n
