\u201cThe revelations of the problems in the ED are alarming in the extreme.<\/h3>\n
\u201cThe SafeWork report relates to Thursday 8 March. It reveals the chronic situation in the RAH nine days before the election and which was conveniently hidden from public exposure.<\/h3>\n
\u201cOn that day there was a prolonged and extensive ambulance ramping to the point that seriously ill patients could not be brought to the ED to be properly assessed. There were 91 patients in the ED, 14 of them awaiting admission to hospital but there were no available beds. Half of the area in ED was effectively shut down because it was full of patients awaiting admission.<\/h3>\n
\u201cPatients requiring intensive care were having to be transferred to other hospitals. The report also found that the official hospital statistics for the ED on that date were misleading\u2026 they showed this was just a normal day.<\/h3>\n
\u201cDoctors in the ED made comments such as \u2018the system is crippled\u2026 we are not coping now, we certainly won\u2019t cope this winter\u2026 the ED will never cope with the introduction of EPAS\u2026\u2019<\/h3>\n
\u201cWe have to ask why is this happening. Why has it been covered up and what can be done to fix it.\u201d<\/h3>\n<\/blockquote>\n
