Former Collingwood champ Dane Swan says no one was happier than him to see his onetime disciple Dustin Martin dominate the league in 2017.<\/h3>\n

\u201cI was as pleased as anyone because he\u2019s kept me in business this year,\u201d Swanny told FIVEAA. \u201cThe only time anyone wants to talk to me is about him. He\u2019s keeping my lights on at home and keeping the bills paid, which is great.\u201d<\/h3>\n

\u201cThe work-life balance probably wasn\u2019t great for him, but in the last few years he\u2019s really found a great balance and he knows what is needed to play great footy. You could argue he\u2019s probably had the best year of anyone in the history of AFL last year.<\/h3>\n

\u201cI actually know how hard he works too. He does all his extras on days off\u2026 that no one sees because he\u2019s not the type of person to do it for accolades and people to look at him.<\/h3>\n

\u201cHe does it because he knows that\u2019s what gets the best out of his footy, that\u2019s why he\u2019s such a great player and such a great player because he does it for himself and for his team, not for people patting him on the back.<\/h3>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s no surprise he is the player he is because he does work hard. He likes to have a good time off the field, but he picks and chooses his moment now and it\u2019s all about footy during the year.\u201d<\/h3>\n<\/blockquote>\n
