Adelaide Crows chairman Rob Chapman rejects reports<\/a> the club lowballed Jake Lever early in its negotiations with the star defender, reports Graham Cornes.<\/h3>\n

\u201cI asked Chappy about that,\u201d Cornesy told FIVEAA on Monday.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe said, \u2018That\u2019s not true — this story we only offered him $350,00. He earned $100,000 more than that this year, so we\u2019re not going to offer him less than he earned this year.\u201d<\/p>\n

But Cornesy said the club had to do something about its image problem.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s a perception the club doesn\u2019t love its players enough — that comes out in negotiations. We\u2019ve had the Lever negotiations, we\u2019ve had other tales about players having to graft out contracts\u2026<\/p>\n

\u201cYou have to dispel the perception.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe club has to have a strategy to dispel this perception that the players can\u2019t wait to get out of the footy club.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n
