Graham Cornes says the Crows — who knew two weeks ago that Jake Lever was on his way out — should not have played the defender in the AFL grand final.<\/h3>\n

\u201cWhat have we gained by playing him? We just made ourselves look stupid again,\u201d Cornesy told FIVEAA on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt some stage your club has to stand for something. A club has to say, look, we\u2019re not here for your convenience. We\u2019re not here for you to enhance and inflate your reputation and your salary — we are trying to forge a club that\u2019s built on spirit and loyalty.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019d put it to the players. You wouldn\u2019t make a decision like this without consulting your leadership group\u2026<\/p>\n

\u201cHe played one really good finals game. I don\u2019t think we saw the best of Jake Lever in the finals.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt might sound emotional, but what has the club gained by allowing him to use the club as a vehicle to further himself?<\/p>\n
