{"id":29462,"date":"2017-06-27T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2017-06-27T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cms.fiveaa.com.au\/uncategorized\/the-shocking-reason-this-local-adelaide-business-had-to-close\/"},"modified":"2017-06-27T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2017-06-27T00:00:00","slug":"the-shocking-reason-this-local-adelaide-business-had-to-close","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cms.fiveaa.com.au\/show\/the-shocking-reason-this-local-adelaide-business-had-to-close\/","title":{"rendered":"The SHOCKING reason this local Adelaide business had to close"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>An Adelaide recycling business has been forced to close following a $100,000 jump in the size of its monthly power bills.<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/itunes.apple.com\/au\/podcast\/david-and-will\/id1167323375?mt=2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>David and Will podcast on iTunes here.<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In 18 months Plastic Granulating Services in Kilburn went from paying $80,000 a month to about $180,000 a month, says owner Steven Scherer.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cIt\u2019s not like we were sitting back waiting for stuff to happen,\u201d Steven told FIVEAA\u2019s David and Will on Tuesday. \u201cWe were negotiation heavily with retailers and looking at the alternatives of going it alone in the spot market.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>But Steven said \u201cthere was nowhere to go\u201d as he tried to reduce his power bill.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor someone that\u2019s supposed to be recycling plastic, I\u2019ve done far too much time and energy and the reason why energy costs are where they are.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The business had operated for almost 40 years and employed 35 people.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThe business operated 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and has done so for the last 15 years.
