Former state Director of Public Prosecutions Stephen Pallaras has called on the Attorney-General to change the way criminal sentences are decided in SA so as to avoid \u201cnonsense results\u201d.<\/h3>\n

Following the outcry over the sentence given to the driver who killed Adelaide mum Nicole Tucker,<\/a> Mr Pallaras is calling for a multiplier effect to be used in calculating sentences.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think that\u2019s the challenge that faces the Attorney-General. He has to factor it in,\u201d Mr Pallaras said.<\/p>\n

He said public murmurings were becoming \u201cshouts of protest\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe as lawyers, and our leaders as politicians, have to take notice\u2026 because the legal system is meant to serve the public.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd if the public is constantly dissatisfied\u2026 then something has to change.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

He said the sentence given to Mrs Tucker\u2019s killer was \u201cnonsense\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have a philosophy of treating minors in a radically different way than how we would treat an adult.\u201d<\/p>\n
